America leaned back, a wide grin on his face. He guessed he could play along for a little while before he told her his secret. “I haven’t fallen yet, and I’ve done some crazy shit in my life. So who’re you to say those things?” He flicked her forehead. “You don’t know my life, kid, so stop being all down in the dumps! Just let me believe in my delusion for a little longer, yeah?”

Selina stuck her tongue out at him with a slight smile, “I’m just being realistic, Al,”

“Well I’m not!” America declared stubbornly. “I’m being optimistic. You should try it sometime, dude,” he said with a grin.

“Pff,”
Shifting in her chair, Selina watched him steadily. There wasn’t much room for optimism in Blüdhaven or Gotham. Sure, most heroes were optimistic, especially the Kryptonians or Captain Marvel, but in addition to their cities being considerably… cleaner, they also had more abilities to pull from.

America regarded her with a soft smile. She looked older than she was, staring at him like that. That didn’t sit well with him — a girl her age shouldn’t have to worry about trust yet. Reaching over, he ruffled her hair. “C’mon… lighten up. It’s okay.”

“Hey!” she protested, grinning as she swatted lightly at his hand before pushing her hair out of her face again. Not that it helped too much, it just kinda poofed to sit more like her mom’s hair does… which the redhead found irritating.
